TopBox – Controller for Fans Set Up in a Grid/Matrix

TopBox is a ModBus controller specifically designed for fans in groups and matrix configurations.

It is particularly suitable for retrofitting HVAC systems and larger air handling units, where efficiency is improved by replacing traditional fans and frequency inverters with multiple EC fans for both air supply and extraction. By using TopBox, you get the same operational overview as previously displayed on the frequency inverter, but in addition, you also receive real-time status on the fans’ energy consumption.

Technical Function

TopBox receives a signal from an existing controller – either a ModBus signal or 0-10V signals – and converts these into ModBus control of the fans. Also, a feature of regulation by signal from a pressure transducer is available. This pressure-based regulation can be combined with calendar scheduling and outdoor temperature compensation.

Operation Monitoring

The operation can be monitored via the LS Config app, by connecting a display to the TopBox, or by choosing a TopBox with a built-in display. Additionally, monitoring can also be done via the BMS/CTS if it is part of the installation.

One of the data points that can be monitored – provided that fans with energy consumption data are used – is precise energy consumption. This can be displayed as a total energy consumption summary for all connected fans, but it is also possible to view the consumption of each individual fan separately.

Setup & Connectivity

The setup is simple and is carried out via a Bluetooth connection to our LS Config app, which is included with the product. A LAN connection is not required during setup, as all functions are locally accessible via Bluetooth.

TopBox also offers the option of connecting to the internet via a LAN connection, enabling access to the LS SmartConnect Center.
